500 Colones

Just last Friday I got this coins from Costa Rica. I was wondering why this one is called "Colones", after a quick research I learned that "Colones" is named after Columbus who was known as Cristobal Colon in Spain. Columbus is just the English version. He was the first European to reach Costa Rica hence the "why" Colones. Anyway, "colones" is also known as "pesos" locally as it was the Cost Rican currency before the colones was introduced. B.C.C.R. I guess means Bank Central of Costa Rica.
