Honduras Paper Money

I was quite dissappointed that I didn't get any Honduras coins. It seems not popular in the common market anymore. Anyway, next time I have the chance I'm going to try harder to look for coins.

Here's a scan of "cien lempiras". I have 50, 1 (lots of them), 2, 5, 10 and 20 lempiras. In Philippines we call money "pera". I wonder if that has something to do with Lempiras. As you all know Philippines is a Spanish colony for about 300 years.

AU dollar - Eureka Stockade

Eureka Stockade 1854
2004 1 dollar commemorative, mint coin

Eureka stockade is an uprising of gold miners back in 1850s in Australia because of high taxes imposed by the authorities. It was a bloody war! Anyway refer to the image for a little more information. I got this from ebay.com I have been collecting 1 dollar commemorative from Australia since 1999. Some are easy to find through loose change but some were low in mintage that collectors hoard them so I have to buy some. This however is the first one I bought. I haven't bought any more yet, postage from Australia to the US is expensive. I may use a local address in Australia for delivery next time to cut the postage cost. I have about 15 dollar coin now, most of them were from circulation. I will try to feature them in here. I am little bit disappointed with the scan result of the image above, gold color coin doesn't seem to scan well.

This link on Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation if some are interested.

Russian Ruble

This rouble is the regular one, minted on 1964. Apparently those that were minted in 1967 are rare so if you have one keep it they could have friends out there! This one is a little smaller than the commemorative ones.

Here's another Russian coin . . .

- 1 rouble

Russian Ruble

Apart from burning my hair accidentally today, don't worry I am fine and don't ask me how, there is nothing much going on regarding my coin collection. I have slowed down a bit. No new accumulation in the past 30 days. But soon I may have some new Honduras coins. I will post that as soon as I got them.

Anyway, the image displayed here is of course of Russian Ruble. I have not research anything about this particular coin. I decided to just make a comment and guess what it is through looking at the coin. I'll look in the book later. I got this from somebody I swap with once in a while in Europe. Let me know what you think. Some coin do scan better.

- I think this is a commemorative one because of the indication by the year of 1870 - 1970
- the image would be of Lenin
- the coin is of former Soviet Union
- I think it is one ruble (I am not sure)

UK Half Pennt 1913

Half Penny, 1913, King George V, Bronze
Mintage: 17,476,000
Mintage between 1911 - 1925 is 322,502,000
KM# 809

I am not quite sure where I got this coin, I think this is from my mum-in-law. She gave me some old coins. The firsts "Half Pennys" were minted during King Edward the 3rd's reign. King George was in 1/2 penny from 1911 up to 1936, then the image changed to King George IV the next British Monarch.

The Malla Dynasty is a Newari Dynasty before the Shas (current royal dynasty in Nepal)

THAILAND - 1998 10 baht Y#348

This coin is to commemorate the
13th Asian Games
held in Bangkok BE2541 (1998)

This coin was actually in circulation and my first ever Thai coins were one of these. I first visited Thailand back in 1997. All Thai coins bear the image of Rama IX. The regular coins have temples or palace images on the reverse side. The Thai King is highly revered by the local so even stepping on a coin is offensive and could get you into trouble or could land you in jail. There is no tolerance on tourists or visitors unawareness of this Law.

Presidential Dollar Album

This album I got from Borders for about $7 . . . I would have like something that is a little fancier but this will do for now to keep the coins organize. There are a few different styles, some have too many things on it that is probably not necessary but if it suits your fancy they are definitely available.

This particular folder album has four (4) panels, 5 years in a panel, with 19 holes for coins in one (1) panel, the holes in this folder has a special LOCK-IN feature so that your coin won't fall out, two (2) panels each for Philadelphia and Denver meant, from 2007 until 2016. Each coin holes has each Presidents presidential year written. A flap page on one end list each presidents year of birth and year of death including their Political party and their vice Presidents during their time. The other flap page is a few information about the Presidential Dollars.

Westward Journey Nickel Set
Missouri Quarter

The images above are from my souvenirs I got from St. Louis on my visit there last June. I also got a book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. I already have a set of the nickels I got off pocket change. This one I bought more for the information it has on the packaging. I got some - Panama coins!

I got some Panama coins - sort of!

These are the coins that I got from Panama. My husband couldn't easily find some in circulation (he found two from loose change) so when he got to the airport he bought me this souvenir instead. Not really the ideal one for a coin collector but I am glad that he made an effort. These coins are laminated into a plastic backing, a piece of paper with some obvious information was taped on the back of the whole thing. I don't know if I can ever rescue the coins off it. I have successfully broke the thick plastic backing and peeled off most of the laminate but the dried up laminate mixture on the coin itself is staying. At least I can put them in my coin display pockets now. It frustrates me when this happens, an ignorance to what a coin collector would prefer. This is about 10 bucks.

Australian 50 cents

25th Anniversary of the decimal currency.
The ram used to be the what on the reverse side of the round 50 cents!

This took me a while to find. I collect Australia's 50 cent commemorative. Most of them I got from loose change, some from families. This particular one is not very common and I have to buy it from ebay. I don't remember how much I paid for it but I remembered the postage was not cheap.

Panama Coins and Banknotes

The other day I asked my husband to pick up some "Balboas" for me. Today I tried to look through the internet and some books on Panama currency. I realized that they don't have any banknotes. They've stopped the circulation, I think, back in 1940s. There are some coins and it is being used along side US coins which is also a legal tender. So I am hoping I'd still get few coins when he gets back. The image above is scanned from one of my coin books.

Presidential Dollars - John Adams

1 dollar commemorative
Presidential Dollar - John Adams
issued 17 May 2007
2nd President of USA
1797 - 1801

From the vending machine at Silver Spring car park, I got me a bunch of John Adams 1 dollar commemorative coins. My husband used one to pay for coffee and the teller got excited, apparently the commemorative dollar doesn't come by often enough. I am sure she is keeping that one.

Australian Shilling

Australian Shilling, 1942

Nothing very exciting on this one really, except that it is old and not in circulation. George Kruger-Grey designed the reverse from the champion merino ram at the Sydney Sheep Show in 1933. In the Myatt/Hanley book Australian Coins, Notes & Medals the ram is named as Burrabogie OI from near Hay in NSW and was owned by Mr A A Neilson Mills. In the April 1991 Australian Coin Review, Mick Vort Ronald names the ram as Uardry 0.1 (Hallmark) but as being from the same owners. I have no idea why they chose the Merino Ram as the obverse image. Anyway, Merino Rams were/are priced for its very thick wool.

2007 US Quarters

Montana and Washington State
2007 quarters

So who else collect them? I started mine in 2000. It was a staggering collection, being in Asia (Laos) I depended on swapping with fellow collectors and when friends and families came back from a US trip. Then living here in the US gave me a windfall. I have mentioned these several times before, the train station ticket machine (vending machine) has plenty of them. Now, I am keeping two coin folders, one from Whitman and one from the US Mint itself. Since I am located in the east coast, some quarters I sought for that were minted in Denver has eluded my way. I am not really sure what I'd do with the other one coin folder. The coins are not in mint condition because I do prefer circulated ones. It has character on it. Anyway, the quarters above are my change from a Bookstore! I have 70 quarters so far in H.E. Harris folder and about 35 quarters on the Whitman Folder.

Bhutan 1979 - Ngultrum

1979 One Ngultrum
Copper-nickel clad Steel, KM# 49
Diameter: 2.8cm

Symbols on both sides of the coins are from Buddhist Dharma
Obverse: "Dharmachakra" (Wheel of Law or Wheel of Transformation)
Reverse: "Ashtamangala" or the Eight Auspicious symbols

This coin I got from Kathmandu during my stay there (2 years and a half). Some coin merchants sell them by volume. I got about 10 of them for spares. If you are in Kathmandu and you are interested with coins, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square (not Durbar Marg), this is the old palace of the current royal family before they move to Narayanhiti Palace which is Durbar Marg (or Kings Way/Durbar Road). At the far end near the Kasthamandap Temple (southwestern corner of the square) there are about 3 or 4 coin seller. Coins form all over, not just Nepali coins, are spread over a mat. You'd be surprise what treasure you'll find. This is where I found my Wheat Cent and my 1903 Philippine 1 Peso. Inside the palace you'll find the previous King's (the one who was assassinated) coin and banknote collection on display. Some of them are interesting, most you might find you already have.
